Water Over the Dam

0
Yesterday I spent a couple hours in Perth, Ontario. Stewart Park in Perth is one of the nicest community parks in Lanark County. The Tay River runs through the middle of the park and at the upper end of the park is a foot bridge. This photo is of the water running over a small dam which is located under the foot bridge.

Is It Spring Yet?

0
Spring is finally upon us and most of the snow is gone from Ariel Court. Just a bit remains in shaded areas and on the north side of houses and hedges. The flowers are starting to show up even when some snow still covers the flower beds.

Some Goals to be Proud Of

0
I’ve got to start paying more attention to various sites I’ve set up on the ‘net. I’d totally forgotten about “What We Saw” until I was browsing through my bookmarks. I guess it may have something to do with age and the Over Sixty Blues.

However, to get things rolling here are a couple videos of our grandson scoring his third and fourth goals in his first season of playing hockey.

Perth Fair Team Penning – 2007

0
We’ve been a bit slow adding images to the blog, but the time has been gainfully spent editing images from the Team Penning competition at Perth. The full collection is now available for viewing at Team Penning and Sorting – 2007.

There are no once-in-a-lifetime shots, but plenty of pictures of riders and horses enjoying the competition. One of our favourites is John Ireton doing a ‘cowboy pickup’ after losing his hat.

Rider Down

2004 was the first year that we started taking photos of the Team Penning competitions. That year we attended the event at the Perth Fair and the Carp Fair. The Carp Fair provided us with our most interesting Team Penning shot to date – one we call Rider Down.

21st Century Cowgirls

This has to be one of my favourites from the Team Penning competition at Perth Fair on September 1, 2007. Instead of a gun, the new cowboy/cowgirl (cowperson???) goes armed with a cellphone.

Team Penning – Perth Fair 2007

0
We spent Saturday, September 1 at the Perth Fair photographing the Team Penning competition. Over a period of 9 hours we captured approximately 1500 images. We are now in the process of viewing and editing images that we feel are worthwhile putting on our Flickr account.

The biggest problem during the day was the dust. Just upwind from our location they were having lawnmower races and huge clouds of dust drifted across the Team Penning ring at times making it almost impossible to get a shot. Even after the lawnmower races were finished we continued to have trouble with the dust created by the horses and cattle in the ring. A lot of the images look as if they were taken in the fog.

Welcome to ‘What We Saw’

0
What We Saw will, on a regular basis, feature favourite photos taken by Don White and Helen White of Ottawa, Ontario. The photos will not necessarily be posted in the order they were taken, but will be images chosen from material taken over the past few years.

For the most part the pictures have been taken with either a Sony F828 (8 Mpix) or a Sony Alpha A-100 (10 Mpix). Prior to 2004 the pictures will have been captured with a Casio QV3000 (3 Mpix)

During the fall these photos will frequently be from Team Penning competitions at local country fairs such as the ones at Perth and Carp.

The main site for the material is located at Flickr. Further information is available at White Domain Photos
